Screening Criteria

When you apply to Bellwether Housing, we review the following:

Income
Rental History
Credit History
Student Status
Age
Household Size
Criminal History

Bellwether is a partner of the Housing Connector! Clients of the Housing Connector qualify under our modified eligibility criteria at select Bellwether properties.

Please read Eligibility and Screening Criteria for more details.

Student Restrictions

If all household members are full-time students, you may be eligible for select apartments at these buildings:

Annapolis
Kingway
Meridian Manor
Olive Tower
Oregon
Vine Court

For all other Bellwether properties, if all members of your household are full-time students, you must meet one of the following exceptions:

Married and filing a joint federal tax return with spouse
Single parent with a minor child and neither are dependents of a third party
Single parent with a minor child and neither are dependents of a third party
Receiving benefits under Title IV of the Social Security Act (e.g., TANF)
At least one student participates in a program receiving assistance under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act or under other similar, federal, state or local laws.
Previously under the care of a state foster care system.

Exceptions

We can only make exceptions to our screening criteria through an application appeals process.

Reasonable Accommodation

If you need a reasonable accommodation or modification, please ask for a Reasonable Accommodation/Modification Request form at when you apply.

I don't qualify. Does Bellwether have subsidized apartments?

Yes! If you do not qualify for our affordable apartments, you may qualify for our HUD subsidized apartments. You can view information for HUD subsidized apartments with open waiting lists. Bellwether has different screening criteria for HUD subsidized units. The Site Manager will provide a copy of the subsidized criteria if you are applying for one of these units.

I still don't qualify. Where else can I find affordable housing in Seattle?

The City of Seattle has resources for affordable housing. If you don't qualify for Bellwether, you may qualify for another housing program.
